Blood Donation Process
When you donate blood, we do our best to make certain you have a pleasant, safe experience. Donating blood takes about 60 minutes but the actual collection of blood takes only 10 minutes. A new, sterile needle and plastic bag are used to collect each unit of blood!
Here's what happens when you donate:
- You are greeted and registered as a donor.
- You read and complete a medical history form.
- You receive a mini physical to check your temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
- You will feel a slight pinch as the needle is inserted, and within 6-10 minutes, a full unit of blood has been collected!
- You are served cookies and juice at the refreshment table.
The American Red Cross recommends donors eat at least
four hours prior to donating blood.
Blood donations can be made every eight weeks.
