Introduction to Disaster Services: A prerequisite to all other Red Cross Disaster Courses. This is a two-hour video course available for take home viewing. It shows various functions of a disaster relief effort and is designed to inform the viewer of a possible role. Course length: 3 hours. Liaison I: Conducting a Community Collaboration: Participants will be prepared to build and maintain a collaborative relationship designed to help the community's ability to respond to disaster. Community Services Overview (Formerly Mass Care: An Overview): A two-hour video course designed to give the participant a general view of the action necessary to provide services for large numbers of disaster victims. Course length: 3 hours. Shelter Operations: The participant learns how to establish, maintain, and close an emergency shelter. Pre-requisite: Mass Care Overview. Course length: 3 hours. Shelter Simulation: This is a hands-on exercise to set up, maintain, and close an emergency shelter. Pre-requisite: Mass Care Overview. Course length: 3 hours. Family Services (Formerly Emergency Assistance to Families): This course shows how individual Red Cross assistance is determined, dispersed, and reported. Designed for local disaster assistance. Course length: 8 hours. Damage Assessment I & II: This course shows how the Red Cross determines, classifies, and reports the various damages to buildings in a major disaster. Course length: 3 hours.
