When you donate blood, we do our
best to make certain you have a pleasant, safe experience. Donating
blood takes about 60 minutes but the actual collection of blood takes
only 10 minutes. A new, sterile needle and plastic bag are used to
collect each unit of blood!
Here's what happens when you donate:
- You are greeted and registered as
a donor.
- You read and complete a medical history
form.
- You receive a mini physical to check
your temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
- You will feel a slight pinch as the
needle is inserted, and within 6-10 minutes, a full unit of blood
has been collected!
- You are served cookies and juice at
the refreshment table.
The American
Red Cross recommends donors eat at least
four hours prior to donating blood.
