Aquatics Courses Information
Learn-to-Swim: Certified Water Safety Instructors provide progressive swimming instruction to children of all ages and abilities. They teach a variety of strokes, including the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly and introduce a wide range of personal safety skills and diving techniques. Program is divided into seven course levels:
Parent and Child Aquatics: Develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on and around the water. Parent or guardian MUST participate in the water and child MUST be potty trained.
Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills- Help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatics Skills- Provide students with opportunities for success with fundamental skills.
Level 3: Stroke Development- Build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement- Build student confidence and performance of the swimming strokes learned in Level 3 by providing additional guided practice.
Level 5: Stroke Refinement- Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes.
Level 6: Fitness Swimmer - Refine strokes so students swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
Lifeguarding: Teaches knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at a pool as well as valuable first aid and professional rescuer level CPR/AED training. Must be at least 15 years of age and pass an aquatic pretest consisting of a 300-yard swim and a timed retrieval of a 10 pound object from bottom of pool.
Waterfront Lifeguarding: Teaches knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at both a pool and waterfront facility as well as valuable first aid and professional rescuer level CPR/AED training. Must be at least 15 years of age and pass a pretest consisting of a 550-yard swim, timed retrieval of 10 pound object from bottom of pool, and 3 ring retrieval.
Lifeguarding and Waterfront Lifeguarding Re-certification Challenges: Offers the opportunity to update lifeguarding or waterfront lifeguarding certification without retaking the course. Intended as an opportunity to demonstrate skills and be evaluated. It is NOT an instructor-led practice or coaching session. All responsibility for preparedness rests with you!
Waterfront Lifeguarding Bridge: Teaches current lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at a waterfront facility Pretest consists of a 550-yard swim, timed retrieval of 10 pound object from bottom of pool, and 3 ring retrieval.
Lifeguard Management: Provides skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage lifeguards and to create an environment that keeps patrons, lifeguards, and the aquatic facility safe.
GuardStart: Provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguard Training course. Must be 10-14 years of age and have completed a Level IV or equivalent swim class.
Basic Water Rescue:Provides licensed hunting and fishing guides with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others.
